C O N T E S T A Version 2.2
22 October 1990
-----------------------------------------
The program "CONT22.EXE" and its associated documentation "CONT22.DOC"
are distributed free of charge as public domain. This means that anyone may
distribute copies of these files provided no profit is made.
-----------------------------------------
CONT22.EXE
This program is for use during or following a VHF/UHF contest. It will
calculate the score for each QSO and will check for duplicates. It will
also totalize the score and show the maximum distance worked.
The conversion factor for distance calculation is 111.2 km per degree as
required by the RSGB.
When the program is started it will ask if you are using a printer. Enter
Y or N.
You will then be asked to continue or load from disk previously saved data.
The next request is the band. The choices are 50,70,144,432 or 1296 MHz.
When you have selected the band, you then select the scoring method. At the
time of writing (Oct 1990) I could only find reference to two VHF/UHF
contest scoring systems. These are:
1. RSGB system: 0 to 50 km = 1 point
51 to 100 km = 3 points
101 to 150 km = 5 points
151 to 200 km = 7 points ... and pro rata.
2. IARU Region 1 system: 1 point per km.
(If anyone knows of any more then please inform me.)
Following the selection of the scoring system you are asked if you require
a separate sub-total for each page of the log. You may choose 25,30,35 or
40 QSO's per page. (RSGB require 25).
After this you then input the locator from which the contest took place
(Home Locator).
Next you input the callsign of the first contact. The computer will carry
out a duplicate check. If a duplicate is found, it will be indicated on
the screen. The score will be zero for that contact.
Continue entering the callsigns and locators of all contacts for that band.
The maximum number of QSO's you can enter is 1999.
If a station cannot give you a locator then type "NIL" instead of a locator.
You will have to calculate the points for that contact yourself.
After entering a callsign you can cancel it by pressing the ESC key.
(This is useful for duplicate checking only).
A running total of the score, QSO number and max. DX are shown on the screen.
The latitude and longitude for each QSO is also shown for good measure.
To retrieve information you should use the "Load Data" option at the start.
To save date press <N> when asked for another station then select the save
option from the menu.
If a save has been made by the above method you may also save data after a
QSO has been entered by pressing <F2>.
NOTE: The Locator for each QSO is NOT saved.
This program can be used during a contest for duplicate checking only.
The printed output is not in log book format as it is intended for general
purpose use only.
Use ESC key to exit program or cancel a mistake.
------------------------------
This program is bug-free as far as I know. The calculated distances
produced by this program have been checked against published distances
between various locators and have been found to be accurate.
Changes made by version 2.2

80 column mode only
Improved input screen
ESC key to exit at any time
